Did that grab your attention?.. Thanks for stopping in.
Um.. Does anyone have any home-remedies for havoc-wreaking colds? I ask because I've got a killer one, can barely keep my eyes open for the overwhelming sense of anxiety and fatigue I'm feeling. I'm having full body shivers, lasting anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. I have the World's biggest/worst headache [ok, debatable..] and can barely see.
Anyone have any tips/suggestions/remedies/etc I Could try?... There's no effective cold-/flu medications in this house, so I'm left with my own devices [not always the best option
].
If you can't see the point of this thread, I apoloize. If you read this far and might be able to offer something: THANK YOU!
Genuine thanks,
sbgFX

hmmm, I don't know how old you are so this may not be appropriate.
A HOT bath and a hot-toddy (look it up). It always blows my colds away.

Well if you are old enough cause I dont know how old you are either..something that works for me is a good shot of gin with lemon...rub yourself down with Vicks and get under the covers. it should sweat it out of you. And if you are under 21 take two aspirins and a hot toddy LOL.

I hesitate to give this advice, because of the reception I received the last time I gave advice like this, but I have been trained in herbal medicine, and have 14 years of experience. If it were me in your condition, I would take 1200mgs of Garlic and 800to1000mgs of Echinachea every 3 hours for at least 2 days, maybe 3. Then I would cut it back to every 4 to 6 hours for at least a week. I would also drink lots and lots of water. Now according to some Doctors, if you have allergies or Asthma you could have an allergic reaction to it. I personally have never seen this happen to myself who has both, or anyone I have given it to or has taken it. My mother had COPD, and took it many times without a problem. And her Doctor ( who is a little more progressive than some) agreed with her taking it. My mother in law, who has damaged and very sensitive lungs just staved off Pnuemonia with it. It's your call. It sounds like you have a bad case of flu, possibly pnuemonia, and not a cold. Echinacea tackles virus's very well, as well as bacteria without compromising your immune system like antibiotics do. And antibiotics dont do a thing for virus's. Any way that is what every one I know, as well as myself would do in your shoes. I certainly hope whatever you do, you feel better soon.

You want the real best way to get rid of a cold? Do nothing. Nothing works better than your own body's defenses against a cold. Medicines and the sort only hinder it's natural process. Now, this isn't good for everything, like an infection, etc., but for a cold, it's the best way.

Zinc is known to help symptoms, but the best remedy is rest and sweat it out. Make sure you drink lots of fluids. Don't want to get dehydrated.
Hope you feel better, dude.

I think he's at least 40, from his mugshot anyway.

Yummy. I'd be happy to comply with that, any day hehe..

I've certainly done my fair share [in the last two days] of that. LOL.. I hate being sick, though. What an interuption to my day.
Thamks for the feedback people. Not sure about the hot bath, as I think I'm running a fever and my body is trying to cool down, but I'll certainly take heed the rest of the advice!

Yea. Do I look THAT old?.. Time for rogaine I guess.

Where would I find THAT in an ordinary household? lol. hm maybe it's time for vitimins, too, no?

I Google'd that recipe... LOL.. Sounds yummy, actually. Me'n'lemon always get along; I love citrus.
Thanks people.

Just use a turkey baster to suck all that ...stuff out of you and then eat some Wasabi or Jalapenos or Habeneros or Kimchee or Pa Nang. Clear you right up.
Just kidding, you know.

If you have fever, don't feed it.
Just keep your liquids up and stay warm until you start to sweat it out without shivering.
The "feed a cold, and starve a fever" is true.
Feverish bugs hang around longer when they are fed, so for meals I just have soups, vegetable or meat based small meals, with a minimal bread and dairy if you want.
It has always worked well.

I usually dose up on OJ or cranberry juice, but I'm sort of with RPGFX-when I've got the cough or sniffles I just take a day or 3 off and be as comfortable as I can be,and let the body deal with it. I don't think I've ever really 'taken' anything that actually didn't do anything my system wasn't already doing. I'm trying to remember off the top-I think the rhinovirus (common cold) has about about 3-4 days life in a relatively healty person before the white cells mop up the mess. Anyways I hope you feel better soon, the shivering stuff sucks-I had that a cold or two back.

Echinacea is certainly fine as a preventative and also if you are already infected it will work within a few days, but if you are sick as a dog and need relief now I swear by TheraFlu 'Severe Cold and Congestion' night time formula.. it has always worked for me in three days or less to kick out anything up to and including flu and bronchitis.

I was going to recommend that too...I have to agree with JamMeister, that stuff tastes nasty, but man does it work! Best to slug it down before going to bed, it will knock you out for the night.
