Did that grab your attention?.. Thanks for stopping in.

Um.. Does anyone have any home-remedies for havoc-wreaking colds? I ask because I've got a killer one, can barely keep my eyes open for the overwhelming sense of anxiety and fatigue I'm feeling. I'm having full body shivers, lasting anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. I have the World's biggest/worst headache [ok, debatable..] and can barely see.
Anyone have any tips/suggestions/remedies/etc I Could try?... There's no effective cold-/flu medications in this house, so I'm left with my own devices [not always the best option ].

If you can't see the point of this thread, I apoloize. If you read this far and might be able to offer something: THANK YOU!

Genuine thanks,
sbgFX

5 shots of whisky .. after them you wont feel the cold .. or anything else for that matter...

5 shots barely gives me a buzz...

Last time I had a fever... I can't remember that far back! It's been years since I've been seriously sick. I think I remember something about sweating it out.

Nice HOT bath with epson salt helps those hurt joints.

You will get excellent results with vitamin-c.

Vitamin-C is abudant in Kiwi fruits, Oranges, Lemons etc..

The good thing with vitamin-c is that you can take a double
dose of it and not worry about bad side effects, which you
have to be careful with when taking other vitamins.

Vitamin-C boosts your body's immunosystem making it heal
faster and fight intruding bacteria and viruses better.

When I feel that a bad cold or flu may be coming on I
immediately take 2(double dose)of the local vitamin-c
tabs and let them dissolve in a cold glass of water.

I then go and tuck myself in and sleep to give the
immunosystem all the energy it need to do the fighting.
After sleeping for hours I wake up and take another glass
of water with the same dose of vitamin-c again.

Usually, after about 12 hours the symptoms are gone.
If it's a bad case it may take as long as 24 hours.
I try to stay asleep as long as possible during that
time to make the body heal as quick as possible.

You can also find vitamin-c in a powder form which
you also dissolve in a glass of water.
Vitamin-c comes in many different flavors so you can
find something to your taste.

Strawberry and lemon are my favs

And remember, the body will burn any excessive vitamin-c
it does not use up so you can take a double dose of it.
You should never do that with prescribed medications or other cures.

Also, drink a lot of water or fruit juice.
Water helps flushing out infections and keep you from dehydrating
which is easy to do when the fever sets in.

Take a cold shower and then go outside and dry off. Soon, you won't feel anything.

Echinacea is certainly fine as a preventative

Hi, JamMeister, Just thought I would tell you since you wont find it on the bottle of any brand of Echinacea you buy, That it should not be used as a preventative. If it is used when nothing is wrong, it will turn your immune system on you!

That and also pray to God.

Always a good thing!

Hit your head repeatedly with a mash hammer.....eventually you will forget all about having a cold.

Instead you'll have a headache...and for that there's Panadol, etc....

All these old-wives' tales and home remedies are 'quaint'....but think about it....with the common cold being one of the biggest causes of worker down-time if any one of these ACTUALLY WORKED .... someone, somewhere would be stinking rich....

....and they ain't...

With all due respect to your comment, I can tell you that my remedie is far more than "quaint". It has saved my life, and helped the countless people that have used it. The world finds it hard to break out of the box they have been put in by what the AMA and news media have brain washed them with. In spite of this, their are those out there who make a good living selling herbs and alternative medicines. And as for those who are not, they are just content helping people without getting rich from it. Why is everything judged by how rich it makes us financially? You can be Cash rich and soul poor. What it boils down to is the corner has already been marketed for that by the Medical community. Those of us who are truly concerned for anothers well being don't need to get financially rich. It is enough to help improve their lives.

with the common cold being one of the biggest causes of worker down-time

That's the bit you should have taken note of.

Again, if any of thse 'remedies' cured the common cold the business communities would be beating your door down, clamoring for it/them....but they are not...

Ever hear of the Tucker car? Look what happened there. (great example) Who do you think is bigger and more in charge? The medical, pharmaceutical and FDA community or the everyday company business? In my little piece of the world, we have beaten the common cold, and many other illnesses.

Yes...I've heard of the Tucker...

I see...the existence of the common cold and its prevalence is due to the FDA what, actively obstructing its cure?

Come on, now.....let's not delve too wildly into Conspiracy theorem.

Must say, though....if you've 'beaten the common cold' you should seriously look at patenting it...cos guaranteed you'll be richer than Gates...

I can't patent and make money off of an herb that God gave us to use for free. I like sleeping too much at night. And I do not know of anything that will help prevent them except for vitamin C and uncooked garlic. But if I get a cold (which is extremely rare) or flu bug, I can get rid of it in about a day with the herbal knowledge and experience that I have. Thought you might be intersted to know, that I have only needed a medical doctor once in the last 20 years. I don't even have one. And that visit to the Doctor was before I was taught Herbal healing by a Cherokee medicine woman.
